Blizzard’s hack and slash RPG, Diablo 4 recently had its Open Beta phase and its files indicate that it supports DirectStorage on PC. This is significant because Diablo 4 is only the second triple-A game to support DirectStorage after Forspoken. From what we can see, Diablo 4 uses DirectStorage 1.0, which means it doesn’t use GPU decompression. This feature is only available in DirectStorage 1.1. Unfortunately, we don’t have additional details about DirectStorage yet.
What we do know is that the game ran smoothly during the Open Beta phase, despite requiring a lot of VRAM for its Max Textures. As we previously reported, the NVIDIA RTX4090 could run Diablo 4 with 40-50fps at Native 8K/Max Settings. Additionally, its release version will support DLSS 3. Blizzard also plans to add some Ray Tracing effects via a post-launch update.
Diablo 4 will officially release on June 6th and will be an always-online game, with no offline mode. It will also have cosmetic micro-transactions. Stay tuned for more information on the game.
