Mercedes-Maybach EQS SUV unveiled with luxury features and enhanced performance
German automotive giant Mercedes has been busy with electric models in recent years, from the EQA to the EQS sedan, both in standard and AMG form. Now, the brand has added an ultra-luxury model with the Maybach signature to its menu and unveiled the 2024 Mercedes-Maybach EQS SUV.
The new Maybach EQS 680 SUV is based on the standard EQS SUV model, but its signature front grille adapted to the EQ family, dual-tone body design, 22-inch forged wheels with seven spokes, Maybach logo on the C-pillar, frequently used chrome details, and illuminated steps take its design to a whole new level.
The Maybach EQS 680 offers a total of 484 kW (649 hp) power and 950 Nm torque, a significant improvement over the 400 kW (536 hp) and 850 Nm values of the standard EQS 580 in terms of power. As a result, the luxury SUV’s 0-100 km/h acceleration time has been reduced from 4.6 seconds to 4.4 seconds. The top speed is limited to 210 km/h.
The battery capacity of the Maybach EQS 680 has not been specified, but we can assume that it uses the 107.8 kWh battery used in other EQS models. The luxury SUV has a range of 600 km according to the WLTP. The battery, which has a charging time of over 6 hours with 22 kW AC charging, can be charged from 10-80% in 30 minutes with 200 kW DC fast charging, providing a range of up to 220 km in just 15 minutes.
Of course, the luxury features are what set a Maybach car apart, and this model offers users the pleasure of the updated air suspension with a special Maybach driving mode. This mode, which replaces the comfort mode, focuses on maximizing the ride quality for rear seat passengers and receives information from a swing sensor located under the rear seats. Additionally, the vehicle has a rear axle steering system that can turn the rear wheels up to 10 degrees.
Maybach EQS 680 users can also enjoy the Burmester 4D sound system with 15 speakers, thermal cup holders, and the Active Ambience Lighting System with 253 individually adjustable LEDs, all of which come as standard with the Air Balance package. The rear seats feature standard heating, cooling, and massage functions, as well as extra luxury features such as calf massage, neck, and shoulder heating.
Mercedes has not yet shared the price of the Maybach EQS 680, but it is expected to be around $200,000. The model will be produced at the Tuscaloosa, Alabama factory along with the standard EQS SUV.
